Doctor Gemma Trasporto graced us with her presence last Saturday, Aug. 17, to give a talk entitled “What Women Ought to Know.” It is one of the series of talks she conducts on her spare time as part of her advocacy to promote women’s health. As an OB-Gyne, she is well aware of the external properties and inner workings of the female reproductive system.

The talk focused not only on how a vulva should look like, but also on the intricate functions of the vagina as well. As it turned out, there were still a lot of things that we didn’t know and risks that we were not aware of as women.

Before the talk started, Doc Gemma measured the weight and blood pressure of the attendees and computed their body mass index along with her team. Also with Doc Gemma are Roff and RN Pastilloso of USANA Iloilo and representatives of Biofemme who gave free hematocrit tests and bone screening to give a better view of one’s overall health.

This event was conducted exclusively for the women employees of Panay News with some members of their families also attending.

Because we were all women, it was a comfortable discussion. Talking about a woman’s vagina is not really a topic for regular conversations, unless it’s with your doctors. Doc Gemma conducts these talks for free and you can always approach her if you want to learn too. Aside from women’s health and wellness, her advocacy also includes sexual purity, teenage risk-taking behaviors, Mothers’ Classes – preparing would-be moms, promoting breastfeeding, and the Lamaze method.
