MANILA – Carl Tamayo produced another solid offensive game as Changwon LG Sakers secured an 84-79 victory over Seoul Samsung Thunders in the Korean Basketball League at the Changwon Gymnasium.
Tamayo, who was named as the MVP for the third round of eliminations, tallied 24 points, including three three-point conversions, to go with seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals to lead the LG Sakers.
Yang Jun-seok added a double-double of 16 points and 12 assists, Yu Ki-sang contributed 16 markers, while Darryl Monroe and Jeong In-deok had 10 apiece as the LG Sakers moved up to third spot with a 17-13 win-loss slate.
“I am so grateful to the players and I think we gained a lot from the fact that the younger players gained strength in the crucial moments,” LG Sakers head coach Cho Sang-hyun said after the game.
“The only thing that was a little disappointing was that we gave them a chance to chase after us with a turnover at the end. I think that was also part of the process and I think it led to a good result,” he added.
Choi Seong-mo finished with 24 points to lead the way for the Thunders, Justin Gutang added 14 markers, while Lee Weon-seok ended with 11 points as they dropped to an 11-18 mark.
Meanwhile, Goyang Sono Skygunners overcame the absence of Kevin Quiambao to score an 84-81 victory over Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus, snapping their five-game losing skid.
Lee Jae-do and Kim Jin-yu led the Skygunners with 18 points apiece, Lee Dong-yeop added 16 markers, while DJ Burns Jr. contributed 13 points as they moved up to a 10-20 record.
Quiambao missed the game after sustaining a ruptured ankle ligament during the Skygunners’ loss against the Seoul SK Knights on Sunday.
Miguel Oczon and Sean Long top-scored for Mobis Phoebus with 19 points apiece, Gaige Prim added 12 markers, while Park Moo-bin contributed 10 points as they fell to a 20-9 mark./PN
