KALIBO, Aklan – Around 1,500 merrymakers are expected to join the opening salvo for the 2017 Ati-Atihan Festival.
Street dancers and drummers from 41 Tribal and Modern groups will lead the Tamboe Salvo this coming Oct. 21.
The opening salvo will not only see “drumbeats dominating the main streets” but will also be “blazing with pageantry and revelry,” said Albert Menez, chairman of the organizing group Kalibo Santo Niño Ati-Atihan Foundation, Inc. (Kasafi).
A more grandiose Ati-Atihan celebration in honor of Señor Santo Niño is to be expected from Jan. 6 to 15, 2017.

Rep. Carlito Marquez, Gov. Florencio Miraflores, Mayor William Lachica, and candidates in the 2016 Miss Earth will join the opening salvo crowd at the Pastrana Park.
