TANGALAN, Aklan – Mayor Gene Fuentes warned the public against scammers using the name of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Fuentes received reports on strangers roaming the town and claiming to be working for the Office of the President, the mayor said on Facebook.
Some of the “swindlers/scammers/fraudulent individuals” also claim to be under the municipal government or the Office of the Mayor, he said.
These strangers “instruct potential victims to fill [out] a form to provide personal information/details,” Fuentes said in a Facebook post.
According to the mayor, this “may lead to identity theft or extortion attempts.”
Fuentes issued the warning particularly to beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.
“They are also claiming to facilitate the transfer of funds through the LGU (local government unit) to so-called beneficiaries, among others,” he said.
“Please be informed that LGU Tangalan is not associated with the individuals responsible for these and does not distribute forms to the public and engage in the types of transactions claimed,” he added.
The police are currently investigating the reports. (PNA)
