BACOLOD City – Barangay Tangub was declared this year’s champion in the MassKara Festival Street and Arena Dance Competition, Barangay Category – besting 13 other competing groups.
Barangay 18 was first runner-up; Barangay Villamonte, second runner-up; Barangay Alijis, third runner-up, and Barangay Mandalagan, fourth runner-up.
Aside from the championship, Tangub won Best in Original Music. Its choreographer was Segundo Jesus “Panoy” Cabalcar Jr.
Barangay 18 reaped two special awards – Best in Costume and Best in Choreography – while Barangay Villamonte was awarded Best in Concept and Best in Mask.
Barangay Category contenders performed Sunday, the last day of the 21-day festival. The winners were announced in the evening. Other participating barangays were Pahanocoy, Handumanan, 7, 8, 29, 38, 39, 40, and 41.

On the other hand, the Schools Category of the Street and Arena Dance Competition was held on Saturday. President Rodrigo Duterte graced the event. The winners were announced that night, too.
In the elementary level, the Education and Training Center School II was declared champion. It also won the special awards Best in Mask, Best in Costume, Best in Choreography, and Best in Original Music.
The Montevista Elementary School, Crispino V. Ramos Elementary School and Patricia Homes Elementary School, meanwhile, were the first, second and third runners-up, respectively.
Crispino V. Ramos Elementary School also won Best in Concept.
Other elementary schools that joined were Sum-ag Elementary School, ABKASA Elementary School and A.L. Jayme Elementary School.
In the secondary level, Mandalagan National High School bested three other competing schools. The champion school also won Best in Mask, Best in Costume, Best in Concept, and Best in Original Music.
Barangay Singcang-Airport National High School was first runner-up and Best in Choreography. Mansilingan Agro National High School was second runner-up and Bacolod City National High School, third runner-up.
In the Electric MassKara Performing Floats Competition, Barangay 22 was hailed the champion while Barangay Banago and Barangay 32 were first and second runners-up, respectively./PN
