ILOILO City – Police have yet to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of a village watchman in Barangay San Miguel, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo.
The body of Romerico Baron Jr. was found by locals floating in an irrigation canal at 6 a.m. on Sunday.
Baron bore bruises on the knees and forehead, said Chief Inspector Joven Arevalo, municipal police chief.
From what investigators have so far gathered, Baron went to a birthday party on Saturday night. At around 9 p.m. he told companions he would go home. But he was unable to.
Police were inclined to believe Baron’s death was a result of an accident.
Baron “had no enemy in the village,” Arevalo said, citing initial investigation.
The barangay tanod may have slipped and his head smacked on a hard surface, and then he lost consciousness and drowned, he added.
Arevalo said he has requested for an autopsy to determine the cause of death./PN
