BACOLOD C – A barangay tanod was shot during the fiesta of Barangay Minapasuk, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.
Jojo Mahilum sustained a gunshot wound on his left thigh. He was brought to Calatrava District Hospital.
According to the Calatrava Municipal Police Station (MPS), barangay tanods conducting foot patrol chanced upon Mark Magnanao, 28, and a resident of the town’s Sitio Palala, Barangay Marcelo, carrying a caliber .45 pistol with magazine and three bullets.
The police added that when Mahilum tried to confiscate the gun, Magnanao resisted until he accidentally pulled the trigger and hit the victim.
The suspect immediately fled after the incident. A hot pursuit against him was ongoing.
Calatrava MPS records also showed that the suspect has a pending case for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act)./PN
