ILOILO – A barangay tanod and a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman are among the nine who were arrested for illegal cockfighting, or pauwak, in Barangay 9, San Miguel town.
Tanod Marcelo Sabido and SK chairman Raven Salvana of Barangay 9 were caught by the officers of the San Miguel Municipal Police Station and 1st Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company on Sunday, Dec. 4.
Also arrested were Cezar Ian Sandig, Joel Arcenas and Wilson Saba, all residents of Barangay 9; Ryan John Cabanalan of Brgy. 2, San Miguel; Juan Salvoza of Brgy. 8, San Miguel; Larry Abitan of Brgy. 1, San Miguel; and Russ Reynold Braga of Brgy. Cordova, Tigbauan town.
Among the items recovered were 15 game fowls, P9,940 bet money, a weighing scale, and an improvised fighting ring.
In an interview with Police Major Sullen Domingo, chief of the San Miguel MPS, the nine suspects are now in their custody and will be charged with violation of the Cockfighting Law of 1974./PN
