ROXAS City – Three business establishments in Tapaz, Capiz have fallen victims to a modus that some individuals perpetrate to get free cellphone load, this time using Mayor Roberto Palomar’s name.
Palomar confirmed with Panay News that his name has been used in such modus, like what happened to Roxas City councilor Matthew James Viterbo.
On Jan. 5, a man who introduced himself as Palomar called the establishments – Cebuana Lhuillier, Tapaz Ticketing Office and CH Store – and asked them to credit his supposed office employees’ cellphone numbers worth P1,000 each.
The caller told the staffers of each establishment to get the payment at Palomar’s office at the municipal hall.
According to the establishment staffers, they heeded the caller’s request because he sounded like Palomar.
Cebuana Lhuillier manager Raymund Ballesteros said they lost P27,000 to the caller while Tapaz Ticketing Office owner Myrna Española said they lost P5,000.
CH Store owner Ma. CH Gloria, on the other hand, lost P9,000.
Palomar cautioned all business establishments in the town about the modus. He told the establishment staffers “to visit his office first if anyone uses his name in any transaction involving money.”/PN
