ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas has instructed the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) to focus on targeting the masterminds behind the illegal drug trade in the city. The mayor issued this directive after the recent operations that led to the confiscation of illegal drugs worth P8 million. While Treñas commended this successful seizure, he emphasized the need for law enforcement to extend their efforts beyond street-level operations and go after those who are orchestrating the illegal drug activities.

The mayor underscored the importance of dismantling the networks behind the drug trade to address the root of the problem effectively.
“While these are commendable achievements, I also order the ICPO to intensify their operations and go beyond the street and high-level operations and pursue, if any, the masterminds behind this illegal trade,” said Treñas.

The ICPO has reported significant accomplishments during the first half of October 2024, surpassing their performance for the entire month of September.

According to the ICPO’s Operational Accomplishment Report covering the period from October 1 to 15, law enforcement successfully confiscated 2.1 kilograms of illegal drugs valued at P14.3 million. This is a marked increase compared to the P9.9 million worth of illegal drugs seized in September.

Beyond the anti-drug operations, the ICPO has also made considerable strides in other areas of law enforcement, including the seizure of illegal firearms and explosives.

Treñas lauded the police for actively curbing illegal gambling activities, ensuring the enforcement of various city ordinances and maintaining safety and security for its residents.

“The ICPO can be assured that the City Government will continue to fully support their relentless pursuit of a drug-free city. The people of Iloilo City extend their gratitude and appreciation,” the mayor said./PN
