AKLAN – Authorities have intensified their investigation into the murder of a 23-year-old Slovak tourist whose body was discovered inside an abandoned chapel on Boracay Island.

The Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) has formed a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) to expedite the resolution of the case involving Michaela Mickova, a native of Nitra, Slovakia. Mickova had been staying at Villa Lourdes Resort in Station 1, Barangay Balabag, before she was found dead in an abandoned chapel in Sitio Pinaungon, also in Barangay Balabag, Malay.

APPO spokesperson Police Captain Aubrey Ayon said the taskforce is prioritizing the identification of suspects and establishing the circumstances surrounding Mickova’s death.

Witnesses reported seeing her with certain individuals before she was found lifeless. These persons of interest have been summoned for questioning, but no arrests have been made.

Investigators revealed that Mickova frequently explored remote areas of the island away from popular tourist spots. When her body was found, she was no longer wearing underwear, leading authorities to probe a possible sexual assault.

Police reported that the investigation is 80% complete, with efforts now focused on consolidating evidence to strengthen the case. Meanwhile, an extrajudicial confession has reportedly been submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office, but authorities declined to confirm details, citing the need to protect the integrity of the probe.

Aklan 2nd District’s Cong. Teodorico Haresco Jr. has offered a P100,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators. Over the weekend, the lawmaker met with police officials for updates on the case.

Authorities have identified two persons of interest and are verifying a possible third suspect. Investigators are also awaiting official reports from Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO), including DNA test results from evidence collected at the crime scene.

The public is urged to provide any information that may assist in resolving the case and delivering justice for Michaela Mickova./PN
