MANILA – NLEX Road Warriors center Asi Taulava and San Miguel Beermen forward Arwind Santos are among the top 10 in the all-time rebounding list of the Philippine Basketball Association.
The 6-foot-10 Filipino-Tongan Taulava is currently in the 4th spot with 6,401 total rebounds on 4,197 defensive boards and 2,204 offensive caroms behind retired players Ramon Fernandez (8,652), Abet Guidaben (8,570) and Jerry Codinera (7,034).
The 47-year-old center, however, is unlikely able to catch up with Codinera, considering the former was only able to pile up 62 rebounds last season – a total of 236 in the last three years and with him planning to retire at the end of Philippine Cup.
Santos, currently at No. 7 in the all-time ladder, has a strong chance of making a leap as he piled up 341 rebounds last season and raced past Yoyoy Villamin (5,163), Ali Peek (5,167), Abe King (5,222) and Robert Jaworski (5,367).
With a total of 5,435 boards through the 2018-19 campaign, Santos is 399 away from catching up with Philip Cezar.
Magnolia Hotshots veteran Jean Marc Pingris (4,778), on the other hand, notched the 12th place by bumping off retired player Nic Belasco (4,711), while his teammate Rafael Reavis leapfrogged to No. 15 from No. 22 with his 262 rebounds last season.
Talk ‘N Text KaTropa’s Harvey Carey (4,403) remains in chase of the Top 20. He, however, is bound to retire at the end of the All-Filipino conference.
Making some improvements in the rebounding list are KaTropa’s Kelly Williams (4,281), Alaska Aces’ Joachim Thoss (4,274), Meralco Bolts forwards Ranidel de Ocampo (3,844), and Negrense Reynel Hugnatan (3,567)./PN
