MANILA – Vice Mayor Al Rashid Mohammad Ali of Sapa-Sapa town in Tawi-Tawi province was gunned down in Zamboanga City.
Motorcycle-riding shooters fired at Ali, who was on board a Toyota Innova, at a traffic stop on Governor Alvarez Street in the city Wednesday, according to multiple media reports.
Ali was rushed to the Zamboanga Doctors’ Hospital but died minutes later. He sustained two gunshot wounds on the chest.
The Sapa-Sapa town mayor was the fourth local government official killed in more than a week.
Just last Saturday another vice mayor, Alex Lubigan of Trece Martires City in Cavite province, was shot to death.
On the preceding Monday and Tuesday, mayors Antonio Halili of Tanauan City, Batangas and Ferdinand Bote of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija, respectively, were gunned down as well. (Adrian Stewart Co/PN)
