ILOILO City – A taxi driver was shot dead on Saturday night in Barangay Bitoon, Jaro district.
The suspect was a tricycle driver.
Juanito Mahilum, 56, of Barangay Hibao-an, Mandurriao district died of a gunshot wound on the head. He was driving FJC taxi.
As of this writing, the whereabouts of tricycle driver Robert Parreño of Jaro were unknown. The Jaro police launched a manhunt.
The shooting happened around 9:51 p.m. Mahilum was inside his taxi parked by the roadside, according to Iloilo City Police Office spokesperson Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines.
Prior to the shooting, Mahilum fetched his alleged girlfriend, Susan Baril, from the Small Town Lottery (STL) remittance office in the City Proper, said Bitoon barangay councilman Benny Lopez.
Baril worked as an STL bet collector.
Panay News sources said there was a commotion at the STL remittance office on Arroyo Street, City Proper. Baril chose to take Mahilum’s taxi instead of Parreño’s tricycle.
“We are investigating the incidents in Barangay Bitoon and Arroyo Street,” said Sangrines.
Baril could not be reached for comment as of this writing./PN
