BACOLOD Tay Tung High School advanced to the finals of the Rebisco Volleyball League Girls 18-and-under Western Visayas leg on Thursday at the University of St. La Salle Gym in Bacolod City.
The defending champion reached the final round with a 25-14, 25-21 win over University of St. La Salle in the knockout semifinals.
Tay Tung went on a strong start in the first set behind Katherine Cortez, Shane Carmona and Kiesha Bedonia for an early double-digit edge and never looked back.
USLS made it a close game early in the second set but Tay Tung was able to pull away late in the set with consecutive points from Carmona and Erika Deloria.
Tay Tung was playing against Central Philippine University in the finals, which was ongoing as of this writing.
CPU clinched the other finals seat with a 25-16, 25-19 win over Living Stones International School.
Led by Adrianne Celiz and Athea Aposaga, CPU pounded on the loopholes in Living Stones’ defense to cruise to a straight-set win.
Prior to the final game, Tay Tung assistant coach Biboy Calamba said, “Whoever between those two schools (CPU or Living Stones), we expect a grind-out game. The (Tay Tung) girls naman are willing to give their all one last time to achieve our goal.”
The champion will take a P25,000 purse and represent Western Visayas in the national finals in November./PN
