MANILA – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts cruised to its second win in the Rebisco Volleyball League after sweeping University of San Jose-Recoletos 25-17, 25-23 at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna.
Marianne Sotomil and Shane Carmona had another all-around game for Thunderbolts, which jumped to an early lead in both sets before fending off USJ-R with its endgame rally on Tuesday night.
“It was our first time to represent Bacolod City and our school in this type of competition so we were nervous,” said Sotomil, a native of Pavia, Iloilo. “We just want to make the most out of this opportunity.”
“Others tended to underestimate us because we’re small,” said Carmona, a Bacolodnon. “Kami naman we have nothing to lose heading into this competition so settle down lang and laro.”
Thunderbolts tied De La Salle-Lipa and Holy Rosary College on top of the Pool B standings with a 2-0 win-loss record. USJ-R, meanwhile, dropped to 0-2.
In other matches, Antiqueña Irah Anika Jaboneta had another solid game as Hope Christian High School came back from a set down to score a 22-25, 25-16, 25-22 over Koronadal National Comprehensive High School.
Nazareth School of National University, on the other hand, turned to Faith Nisperos and Ivy Lacsina to collect its second straight win by beating Leyte National High School 25-15, 25-13.
De La Salle-Lipa swept Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws 25-18, 25-22 while University of Mindanao-Tagum improved to 1-1 with a 25-17, 25-20 victory over Holy Faith Academy of Angeles City./PN
