BACOLOD Tay Tung High School and Dumangas were on fire at the start of their respective campaigns in the Iloilo 14 and Under Girls Volleyball League at the Central Philippine University gym in Iloilo City.
Tay Tung won two of its three matches on Saturday – against La Paz National High School (25-13, 17-25, 25-22) and Pavia (25-15, 25-19) – to gain the early lead in Bracket B.
Dumangas, on the other hand, gained the upper hand in Bracket A with a 2-0 win-loss record after defeating Ateneo de Iloilo 25-21, 25-16 and Hua Siong College of Iloilo high school team 25-14, 20-25, 25-20.
In other matches of the day, Santo Niño Elementary School dealt Tay Tung its lone loss 21-25, 26-28 while Central Philippine University defeated San Miguel 25-17, 25-9.
Aside from some newcomers, several Palarong Pambansa elementary division players also participated in the month-long league, organizer Ruding Villaruz said.
Presented by the Philippine Sports Commission, the 14-team tournament will give cash prizes of P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000 plus trophies for the champion, first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively./PN
