BACOLOD Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts is positive on its chances in the Dinagyang Mayorâs Cup Battle of the Champions (High School Division) from Jan. 12 to 14 at Hua Siong College of Iloilo in Iloilo City.
Aside from winning it, the team hopes to use the tournament to test its members against tougher contenders, according to Jose Montalbo, Tay Tung vice president for sports.
Also competing are ILOPRISAA champion Hua Siong College of Iloilo, Santa Clarita International High School Primes and Ateneo de Cebu-Sacred Heart.
âWe know Santa Clarita, Hua Siong and Ateneo de Cebu were no pushovers, so this tournament is a great avenue to test the capability of our basketball squad,â Montalbo said.
Thunderbolts players in the Dinagyang event are Harold Alarcon, Joel Baquilar, Mart James Barrera, Antonio Cacho, Ralph Cagalawan, Ryan Cruz, Kent Esparagoza, Christian Gamao, Fritz Tagamolila, Alec Tan, Fritz Valencia, and Andy Villamer.
âThey may not be the toughest players but I am sure these players will give their all on the floor,â Montalbo said.
Admission to the three-day basketball league will be free, tournament organizer Ruding Villaruz said./PN
