Tay Tung in Rebisco volleyball national finals

BACOLOD Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts vowed to give their all as they represent Western Visayas in the 2019 Rebisco Volleyball League National Finals starting today at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.


Thunderbolts assistant coach Roberto Calamba Jr. said that aside from gaining experience, the Thunderbolts aims for at least a finals appearance after finishing at third place last year.

“We are here to gain experience to prepare us for the regional tournaments but we will also aim for at least a finals appearance or championship if possible since third place naman kami dito last year,” Calamba said.


He added: “But, rest assured, we will do our very best to represent Western Visayas well. Just like in the other tournaments that we played in, we will give our best each game.”


Leading the way for the Thunderbolts are setters Katherine Shaine Cortez and Rhean Hebraica Almendralejo, outside attackers Alyssa Bertolano, Shane Carmona, Erika Deloria, Myrtle Escanlar, and Kyrzten Annikha Cabasac.


Also in the roster were middle blockers Joan Marie Monares, Aurea Claudette Alvero and Kiesha Dazzie Bedonia, and liberos Kathleen Kate Tan and Gwen Banas.

The Thunderbolts will open its campaign against Iligan City National High School today followed by Leyte National High School on Sunday, University of Mindanao Tagum on Tuesday, Sibu of Malaysia on Wednesday and Hawaii on Thursday.

De La Salle Greenhills Greenies and National University Bullpups are tipped as favorites in the Small Basketeers of the Philippines Passerelle National Finals starting today at the Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center in Roxas City, Capiz.


The Greenies is aiming at five consecutive SBP championship, while the Bullpups aims to cement its second straight Passerelle title in the twin tournaments sponsored by Milo. 


La Salle Greenhills, national champions of the SBP division since 2015, will face challenge from Visayas champion University of the Visayas of Cebu, Mindanao champion Corpus Christi School of Cagayan de Oro, and Luzon champion Berkeley School of Baguio.


The Bullpups, on the other hand, seeks to create its own dynasty in the Passerelle division as it takes its highly-touted line-up in Visayas champion Hercor College of Roxas City,Mindanao champion Xavier University High School of Cagayan de Oro, and International School for Better Beginnings of Lucena.


The weekend tournament sees the four teams of each division playing in a single round-robin classification phase, with the top two clashing for the national championship. The other two teams play for third place.


The SBP Passerelle Twin Tournament is the premier tournament for the age group/grassroots level. The SBP is for the Under 12, 11 and 10 age groups, while the Passerelle division is for the Under 15, 14 and 13 age groups./PN
