MANILA – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts and Living Stones International School Lions clinched the girls and boys championship of the LVPI-Visayas Inter-Secondary Volleyball Finals at the Bacolod City National High School Gym.
The Thunderbolts did not waste its twice-to-beat incentive in the finals. It defeated Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in straight sets to clinch the U-19 girls championship.
Shane Carmona was hailed the Most Valuable Player in the U-19 girls, while Joan Marie Monares, Katherine Shaine Cortez and Kiesha Bedonia also provided the needed offensive spark for the Thunderbolts in the entire tournament.
On their way to the championship round, the Thunderbolts defeated Talisay City selection in the semifinals and outlasting St. John’s Institute Falcons in the quarters.
In the elimination round, the Thunderbolts completed a three-game sweep with straight set victories over Aklan Catholic College, Bacolod City National High School and the Falcons.
Also part of the Ian Macariola-mentored Thunderbolts were Erika Deloria, Aurea Alvero, Beatrice Decena, Gwen Banas, Rhean Almendralejo, Annicka Cabasac, Dya Mejos, and Alyssa Bertolano.
The Lions, meanwhile, continued its reign as the best boys volleyball team in Bacolod by sweeping their way to the championship and beating Silay City in the gold medal round.
Jian Matthew Salarzon was named U-19 boys MVP while Kristoffer John Salavetierra was the best setter, Kade Parreno as best libero and Leo Priolo Ordiales as best middle blocker./PN
