BACOLOD Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts ruled the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) Regionals with a 109-47 win over Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School yesterday at the Leon B. Yu Sports Center in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

Mart James Barrera spearheaded the attack with 26 points, while Harold Alarcon and Christian Gamao chipped in 18 and 13 points, respectively, for Thunderbolts.

With the victory, Thunderbolts advances to the NBTC Nationals on March 17 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Thunderbolts immediately made its presence felt in the opening half with conversions from Barrera and Alarcon for a double-digit spread. The lead grew further in the second half with Ryan Cruz and Gamao joining the fray.

“It was a total team effort for us,” said Thunderbolts head coach Dexter Dy. “We really worked hard for this because ang aim namin ay to represent Negros in Manila.”

The Thunderbolts team also includes Fritz Valencia, Alec Tan, Anton Cacho, Ralph Cagalawan, Andy Villamer, Fritz Tagamolila, John Jereza, Louie Ma, Jose Ma, Kaye Perigua, Kent Esparagoza, and Joel Baquilar.

Thunderbolts advanced to the gold medal round after a wire-to-wire 95-70 victory over Tanon College of San Carlos City on Saturday night.
