ILOILO City –  Bacolod Tay Tung High School athletics captured three gold medals in the Regional Qualifying Sports Competition recently at the Iloilo Sports Complex here.

Krisha Dedoyco Aguillon delivered the first gold medal for the Thunderbolts in the Western Visayas qualifiers after finishing on top in the secondary girls 100 meter dash.

“My hard work paid off. I am glad to win the gold medal here in the regional qualifiers,” said Aguillon, younger sister of Far Eastern University athletics team’s Antonette Aguillon.

“However, my next goal is to represent the country in the ASEAN School Games. It will be a dream come true to represent the country in such a prestigious event,” she added.

Shaltea Delotavo, on the other hand, captured a gold medal in the secondary girls 200 meter dash, while Jade Cordova also ended up with a gold in the secondary girls 100 meter hurdles.

Thunderbolts’ fourth track and field bet in Bianca Juliana Seroy fell short in the secondary girls triple jump event to end up with silver medal.

Only the three gold medal winners in will move on to the ASEAN School Games national qualifiers which is scheduled from May 28 to 31 at the same venue.

The winners in the national qualifiers will then represent the country in the ASEAN School Games to be held in Dumaguete City later this year.

“As a coach, I am glad that all of our four athletes in Bacolod Tay Tung High School have won medals but it is unfortunate that only three of them will move on to the next,” said head coach Amado Juguan.

“We will quickly go back to training since the next phase of the qualifiers is going to be tough. The team just hope that all three of them will qualify to ASEAN School Games,” he added.’/PN
