ILOILO – A teacher was injured following a road accident around 6:50 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, in Brgy. Aganan, Pavia, Iloilo.
Police identified the victim as Marie Aquino, 47, a resident of Purok IV, Pavia, while the jeepney driver was identified as Rogelio Sumagaysay Jr., 48, of Brgy. Balabag, New Lucena, Iloilo.
Pavia Police Station investigation revealed that the accident happened when Sumagaysay was traversing from New Lucena to Pavia People’s Terminal.
Upon reaching the barangay hall of Aganan, the New Lucena jeep’s brakes malfunctioned and sideswiped a Nissan Urvan Escaped driven by Ernie Gallego of Brgy. Toyungan, Calinog, Iloilo and a Toyota Hilux driven by Samuel Libo-on of Brgy. Mat-y, Miag-ao, Iloilo. It then bumped to a Nissan Urvan van driven by Marben Lacsi of Calinog before hitting the pedestrian teacher.
“Sa amon imbestigasyon, ang ini nga jeep pag-abot sa Aganan pasaka, nadulaan ini siya preno kag indi niya malubag ang iya salakyan. Kun lubagon niya man maigo ang van kag madamo pa ang damage, so no choice gid ang driver,” said Police Corporal Robert Tang, investigator of Pavia Police Station.
Sumagaysay voluntarily surrendered to the police after the incident while the teacher was brought to the West Visayas State University Medical Center for treatment./PN
