Thank You, Nong Moroy!

WELL…well, how time flies when things fall into place and they go your way, especially if the universe is on your side.

On February 14, 2019 then President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11212, a law granting MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) a 25-year power distribution franchise in Iloilo City.

Officially, MORE Power took over the power distribution facilities of Panay Electric Co. (PECO) on February 20, 2020, one year and six days after the law was signed.

And the fourth anniversary is tomorrow.

MORE Power’s first order of business: a massive overhaul and rehabilitation of PECO’s deteriorating power distribution infrastructure which is now nearing completion, all part of a five-year development plan costing billions of pesos.

Then there’s the ongoing P96.4-million underground cabling system or Underground Distribution Services (UDS), a first in “I Am Iloilo City” and Region 6.

Beyond its role as the city’s sole power distributor, the company has continued its efforts to help uplift the lives of the Ilonggos.

Recently, MORE Power extended financial support to various charitable institutions in Iloilo City through its Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

The charitable institutions included Asilo de Molo, Friends of Cancer Kids Iloilo Foundation, Inc., Philippine Red Cross, Homeless People’s Federation Philippines, Inc., St. Clement’s Parish Church, the Carmelite Monastery, Colegio de San Jose, Assumption Iloilo, Ati Orphanage and Children Center, Jaro Archdiocesan Social Action Center, and St. Vincent Ferrer Seminary, Inc.

MORE Power is also the first ever power utility to actually refund millions of pesos – and counting – deposits to qualified customers in compliance to Article 7 of the Magna Carta for Residential Customers which mandates bill deposit refunds.

Under Article 7 of the magna carta , a customer who has paid his electric bills on or before the due date for three consecutive years may request a full refund of his deposit even before the termination of their service.

The company has already processed a total of P3.3-million bill deposit refunds to 777 customers last year.

These guys at MORE Power are taking customer service/relations to the next level while setting the standards along the way.

For instance, donating seeds to the Federation of Farmers of Iloilo City, setting up a farmers’ market patronizing local urban farmers produce, and releasing fingerlings to restore Iloilo River’s ecological balance, improve fish variety and create a sustainable supply of aquatic food.

In an industry known for profit-taking rather than giving back, MORE Power had a very significant impact on the quality of life and economy of Iloilo City.

During the Iloilo Business Summit hosted by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Iloilo Chapter, the substantial impact of MORE Power’s strategic investments and operational improvements on the local economy was highlighted.

The study was presented by Economist Dr. Winston Padojinog, president of the University of Asia and the Pacific.

MORE Power’s continuous efforts have substantially reduced the frequency/duration of power interruptions, enhancing the reliability of power supply for businesses and households alike. The company’s proactive governance measures have curtailed system losses, aligning them closely with the Energy Regulatory Commission’s system loss charges cap.

These enhancements have been instrumental in attracting more subscribers to MORE Power’s services, leading to a substantial increase in captured customer connections and operational revenues.

Simply put, the entry and continuous presence of MORE Power brings significant contributions to Iloilo City’s economy and its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for the region’s residents and businesses.

Thank you, Nong Moroy a.k.a. MORE Power. Well played, indeed./PN
