LADIES and gents, this is the moment you’ve waited for. Vallacar Transit, Inc. held the third Ceres Chorale Competition Eliminations on Dec. 8, at its Barangay Camalig Ceres Terminal, in Jaro, Iloilo City.

The chorale groups marched to the beat of their drums as they sang songs from the 2017 movie “The Greatest Showman.”

The Late Ricardo B. Yanson, Sr.

The soundtrack of the The Greatest Showman was chosen because according to his grandchild, it honors the late Ricardo B. Yanson Sr., founder of the Yanson Group of Companies.

The film’s portrayal of P.T. Barnum matches the story well with Mr. Yanson’s. In the film, P.T. Barnum played by Hugh Jackman started out small but with a million dreams and his determination to bring them to life, he was able to invent the circus. Just like him, Mr. Yanson started out small too. Only two cars were used for Vallacar Transit at first. But over the course of time and with Mr. Yanson’s drive to succeed in the industry, the business grew bigtime.

Today, there are 3,000 operating Ceres Liners, providing transportation service to people. It all started with a man’s simple dream.

The Competition

Four chorale groups with their acapella prowess competed to be a part of the grand finals where they’ll be battling with Bacolod and Dumaguete contestants in SMX Convention, Bacolod City on December 19.

Tingog Salognon (Jaro National High School), The Harmonics (Iloilo Christian School-Barotac Viejo), Hugpong Uyas Chorale (West Visayas State University—Pototan Campus), and Pavia National High School Choir came alive with their powerful performances.

Singing the mash-up of the songs, “The Greatest Show,” “A Million Dreams,” “Come Alive,” “Never Enough,” “Rewrite the Stars,” and “This is Me,” the chorale groups showed how talented they were and how willing they are to win the competition.

The elimination for the Iloilo contestants goes simultaneous with Bacolod and Dumaguete. The grand champion will take home P100,000.

Winners are yet to be announced but one thing is for sure: Everyone was on the edge of their seats when the chorale group sang, “This is the greatest show!”/PN
