“SIXTY-NINE is the new 100.”
Whether it is 69 men or a preferred position is a matter easily resolved by reading the new 100-erotic-poem collection by Ilonggo provocateur and sex positivist Peter Solis Nery.
On the week of the 2023 Palanca Awards deadline, I was in heat writing erotic poems, averaging 1.5 poems a day.
The urgency to finish 100 poems by May 31 was occasioned by the thought that I started the collection in January 2022 in Sweden, and I yet have to finish more than 16 months — and 12 countries — later.
In 2005, I wrote one erotic Hiligaynon sonnet a day to complete “Kakunyag: Isa ka Gatus nga Sonetos Eroticos sa Hiligaynon” (CreateSpace: 2012) that was first serialized in 2006 in the now-defunct sister newspaper of Panay News. in the vernacular, Ang Hublas nga Kamatuoran.
In 2008, the Kakunyag collection was translated to become the “100 Erotic Sonnets from the Hiligaynon”, published in the US in 2010.
I feel the time has come for a new and modern 100 erotic poems in 2023. And yes, Peter Solis Nery intends to be remembered as the most celebrated (and prolific!) Ilonggo erotic poet in history./PN
