Six local talented groups of artists showcased their creativity and competed for the title of the Grand Winner in The Southprime Flats Mural Painting Contest based on the theme, “ILOILO: Beyond Boundaries”.
Q. Abeto Street Mandurriao brims with colors as the participating groups began painting the walls using Island Paints last Dec. 11 and completed their masterpieces within a week. The wall spaces are covered with bright and relevant artwork based on the competition’s sub themes about frontliners, OFWs, happiness, progress, heritage and love.
ILOILO: Beyond Boundaries is a demonstration of the artists’ craftsmanship and creativity featuring Iloilo’s local scene and culture, as well as the thriving progress of the city. This initiative is a response and support of The Southprime Flats to the LGU’s efforts in turning Iloilo into a vibrant city filled with works of art.
The inauguration event and awarding ceremony held last Dec. 21 was attended by distinguished guests from the City Mayor’s Office, Atty. Sedfrey Cabaluna, Brgy. Capt. Ramon Amoroso, and representatives from the event sponsor, Island Paint, Mr. Mark Sarmiento and Mr. Michael Delos Reyes.

The second place winner, Artikulo, painted a woman carrying her luggage while trying to reach her passport with their “OFW” mural.
“Our painting centers on a woman as a mother trying to give her family members a nice future. The luggage represents her loved ones while the passport represents going to another country to give her loved ones a more prosperous life. The ‘cloth’ that wraps up her body represents her love for her family and she is willing to be apart to improve their living condition,” said Artikulo artist’s representative.
TagaLapaz bags first place with their “Love” mural that depicts Iloilo as ‘The City of Love.’
“Iloilo has been known as the ‘City of Love’ and the best way to represent that love is through a young kid – with an innocent and pure love shown in their smiles. The mural includes The Southprime Flats and a baby embraced by a mother and father. This shows that love starts at home and in the eye of every child,” explained by TagaLapaz artist.
