The tale of two horrible senators

SENATOR Kiko Pangilinan will go down in history for creating an idiotic law which encourages the youth to commit crimes and get away with it.

It might not be his intention to lure kids into doing delinquency but the lack of critical thinking prior to the law’s creation made the senator an idiot. He can never escape responsibility for the increase in crimes mostly committed by street kids, majority of whom came from impoverished families.

Kiko, in a recent interview by the media suspected as paid hacks, was so proud of the law on juvenile delinquency that he authored. Adding insult to injury he boasted it as remedy for protecting minors upon committing crimes.

He did not show remorse over a recent incident involving a minor who hit another minor with a piece of wood; the victim died instantly on the pavement in the presence of his other friends. Not one from the spectators bothered to stop the attacker. They appeared rejoicing as they watched the butchering of someone helpless and couldn’t fight back.

Kiko didn’t bother to admonish the act which trended on social media. He even grinned and felt as if the law of his was a vindication of his stupidity. This is the man we treated as honorable; he’s insensitively cruel.

As a senator, Kiko has never been known for exemplary and distinguished performance in the august hall of the Senate. In years of being a public servant, he has been known more as “Mr. Sharon Cuneta” – a marriage for convenience, a tag that brought him to victory. Mrs. Kiko Pangilinan was his lucky charm to political opportunism. In the Senate, he and fellow Liberal Party senator Franklin Drilon appear to be henchmen for the party.

Any attempt they perceive could possibly besmirch their party in general and their fellow party mates in particular in any probe done in aid of legislation they right away come in full battled gear to protect each other’s asses. Like wolves from the wilderness, they come in packs. They howl, they growl, ready to skin alive any stray in their territorial domain. Theirs is not to unravel the truth that could possibly bring damage to the party, theirs is to hide the lies to make their party happy.

Do not wonder why legitimate probes involving their primates who dip their fingers in the cookie jar never make it to first base. There is an existing syndicate mostly composed of jaundiced personalities picked and chosen according to their qualifications. A potential recruit doesn’t have to be academically equipped as long as one adheres to their principle of corruption the chances of getting in is not remote.

Anyone principled and honest in their conviction, outright you are disqualified. You are considered a threat and dangerous to the organization. But one who is inherently corrupt and perpetually a thief since birth, no further questions asked; you are in.

Take the case of Senator Drilon who was exposed by local journalist Manuel “Boy” Mejorada in his own turf, Iloilo City. Mejorada claimed there was an overprice in the construction of the P500-million Iloilo Convention Center (ICC). This caught the attention even of the national media.

Drilon denied to death the accusation and went to the extent of questioning the credibility of his accuser during a Senate probe.

With the conspiracy of fellow Liberal Party senators they were able to checkmate and block a thorough investigation on the ICC. It hardly reached first base. This is the tale of two horrible senators. (roblesnelson339@yahoo.com.ph/PN)
