The workshop king

I BET that when you collect and read everything I’ve posted about writing on Facebook, you would have earned so much knowledge and wisdom to assume the confidence of someone who has finished an MFA in Creative Writing.

I have been giving writing workshops online since 2014.

There were serious workshops where the interaction was so intense that they needed to be rather private.

I mean, if I were to tell you that you write like a headless chicken, I really don’t want to do that in a public page, or in a Facebook group that is accessed by the general public.

People who have worked closely with me understand that my comments are always constructive.

That I’m not there to hold their hands, and stroke their egos.

They know that my commitment and loyalty is not to them, but only to good writing and good literature.

It is testament to my kindness, generosity, and perceived expertise that most of the people return to my workshops again and again, over the years.

The “Poem-a-thon with Peter Solis Nery” was a 31-day one-poem-a-day challenge in May 2014. From an initial group size of 40+ members, we only had something like 20 finishers. Those who could not cope up with the assignments, I had to kick out of the group. Because I felt it was unfair how I chastise the active participants, and the onlookers just stay there for the ride.

The “Peter Solis Nery Micro-Fiction Workshop” in 2016 was an “online workshop for writing micro-fiction, a.k.a. flash fiction, a.ka. short shorts, a.k.a. very, very short stories.”

The preliminary lectures were given in January, but it ultimately became the private group called the “Peter Solis Nery Writing Lab,” a ten-day (February 1-10) online creative writing workshop in 2016.

I’m not sure if I did an online workshop in 2017.

But “June 2018 Poem-a-thon and Poetry Workshop with Peter Solis Nery” was another 30-day one-poem-a-day-based-on-prompts challenge.

The quality of the poems in the workshop was so awesome that in the end, a Peter’s Prize for Poetry was awarded to the top achiever.

“Peter Solis Nery’s February 2019 Master Class in Creative Writing” was a two-week writing workshop (February 1-14, 2019), where “award-winning writer Peter Solis Nery spends time and pays attention to what you write. He also gives expert advice to improve your work; or simply awards you with “Good job!” or a red heart emoji, if you are on the right track.”

“WOO: Poetry Workshop with Peter Solis Nery” in July 2019 has 184 members.

But I still get requests for admission to the workshop.

Not happening. Haha! Again, only to protect the participants who have sweat blood and tears.

I started “Poets And Writers International — A Peter Solis Nery Online Resource Hub” in September 2019.

It is “the essential poetry and creative writing toolbox from the award-winning poet, playwright, fictionist, and filmmaker Peter Solis Nery.”

I think it has my best (so far) poetry talks and lectures.

It has at least 376 members.

And because it is a public group, it continues to grow.

And if you are smart, you should visit it, and learn something about the writerly life.

I taught writing about literature and literary criticism in June 2020.

It’s called “POETRY CITY with Peter Solis Nery.”

The name is a little misleading, but I have a long story about that.

You don’t have to know it right now, because the group is private anyway.

Still, the excellent essays produced in the workshop have been published here in Panay News via my column.

At the very least, that’s seven free online workshops since 2014 right there.

My name is Peter Solis Nery.

And if I’m not the creative writing workshop king, maybe I’m the workshop queen.

But I’m adding Mr. Workshop to my title!/PN
