ILOILO City – After selling sachets of shabu worth P500, two thieves fell into the hands of the police in a drug operation on Saturday in Barangay Poblacion, Sara, Iloilo around 5 p.m.

Detained at the cell of the Sara police station were JV Buenafe, 28, and Rhey Pamplona, 19, both of Barangay Aspera, Sara.

The suspects, allegedly new drug dealers in Sara, have been under surveillance for a week, said Senior Insp. Gilbert Archide, Sara police chief.

They yielded another seven big sachets of shabu.

Archide said Buenafe and Pamplona were not included in the list of pushers in Sara.

“We just received information that they had been selling illegal drugs for a week,” Archide said.

They were also suspects in some robberies in Sara and in neighboring municipalities.

Earlier, police provincial director, Senior Supt. Cornelio Salinas revealed that Sara was among the three drug hot spots in 42 towns in the province. The other two were Pototan and Dumangas.

On the other hand, Dumangas mayor Rolando Distura vowed to help the police fight drug dealers in their town.

“As chief executive, I would help the police by providing them what they need,” Distura said.

Dumangas town had created Task Force Puerto to focus on drug problems in the port of Dumangas.

The municipality also allotted P200,000 a year for a drug campaign that included P10,000 each for tipsters behind the arrest of drug pushers./PN
