SAN JOSE, Antique – A therapy center for poor children with inborn physical disabilities and who need early intervention will be built in the province next year.
The pilot center will be constructed in this capital town and operate under the Provincial Disability Affairs Office, according to Angie Liza Vagilidad, a physical therapist at the PDAO.
“Facilities, including an electrical stimulator, therapeutic balls and toys for the therapy of upper extremities will be bought in the first quarter of next year,” said Vagilidad.
An initial P350,000 has been included in the 2019 Annual Investment Plan specifically for the purchase of these facilities, she said.
Since August the PDAO has been profiling children zero to 18 years old who have inborn physical disabilities, Vagilidad said during a media forum Wednesday.
The municipality of Bugasong was also planning to put up a similar center.
“In Bugasong … there were 25 children who have been identified with cerebral palsy and other developmental delays,” said Vagilidad.
The local government of Bugasong, which will fund the construction of the Bugasong Therapy Center, was currently looking for a site for the facility.
Meanwhile the profiling of children continues in other municipalities.
Parents of children needing intervention were advised to coordinate with the PDAO.
They should have their children undergo a medical checkup in their respective Municipal Health Offices as a requirement for therapy. (With a report from Philippine News Agency/PN)
