They’re exploiting Boracay’s closure

THE USUAL suspects are at it again, taking advantage of Boracay’s environmental disaster to advance their selfish motives.

They’re like vultures circling over the seriously injured Boracay pushing their self-serving agendas, never mind that by doing so they deprive the island it’s much needed rehabilitation.

For these vultures, as long as they can advance their self-serving agendas it does not matter if Boracay is rehabilitated or not.

They are already irrelevant and “Le Affair Boracay” seems to be the most convenient issue they can use in their never-ending hate campaign against President Rodrigo Duterte.

Really, why would any sane person want to do this? Perhaps only an idiot with an ulterior motive would do so.

Excerpts from the April 26 issue of Panay News:

WILL SC STOP BORACAY CLOSURE?

On the eve of Boracay’s shutdown, the Supreme Court has been asked to stop President Rodrigo Duterte from closing the island.

In a 29-page petition for prohibition and mandamus, three private citizens urged the high court to issue a temporary restraining order.

If Boracay’s closure pushes through despite the filing of the pleading, the petitioners prayed for a status quo ante order.

The government intends to close the island for a six-month rehabilitation beginning today.

The petitioners were Mark Anthony Zabal who earns a living by making sandcastles for tourists on the beaches of Boracay; Thiting Jacosalem who works as a driver for tourists and workers on the island; and Odon Bandiola, a resident of Nabas, Aklan who travels to Boracay for business and pleasure.

Assisted by the National Union of People’s Lawyers (NUPL) Panay chapter, they warned the closure of Boracay would have far-reaching adverse consequences for all persons living and working in the island.

Atty. Rene Estocapio, president of NUPL-Panay, said the petition challenges the constitutionality of the President’s decision to close Boracay as a way of addressing the need to clean-up the island.

Unless a temporary restraining order is issued, the closure of Boracay would proceed, said Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

“We see absolutely no merit for any private party to restrain the closure of Boracay to tourists given that the Supreme Court itself previously ruled that Boracay is owned primarily by the state,” he stressed.

Duterte recently warned the courts not to interfere in the planned Boracay closure by issuing temporary restraining orders “because you would just exacerbate the situation.”

He also invoked “the inherent police power of the State to protect the environment in Boracay.”

Now that the island is closed for six months to clean it up and rehabilitate, anybody who thinks he/she is a somebody wants to cash in.  And what better way to get the world’s attention than to present yourself as an advocate fighting the “evil dictator” Duterte or someone concerned with the plight of “everyman” who makes a living in Boracay?

Take those so-called leftists and pseudo-communists who suddenly appeared in Caticlan hoping to stage rallies and cash in on “Le Affair Boracay.” Unfortunately for them and fortunately for the people of Boracay, nobody’s buying.

Considering that from Trillanes to Alejano they all want to stop the closure and rehabilitation of Boracay, moi would not be surprised if disgraced Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno also jumps in the bandwagon and contributes her shrill voice.

The funny thing is that all these so-called experts – suddenly they’re all environmentalists and concerned advocates of social justice – have not offered any solution or alternative to the cesspool or environmental disaster aka Boracay.

Remember Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV’s antics which was aptly given coverage by the “friendly yellow media”? He wanted the Senate to investigate the six months closure of Boracay because according to him it is to give way to the construction of a casino in the island.

And he shot himself in the foot once again as President Duterte categorically said there will be no construction of a casino on the island during the six months closure, just rehabilitation.

Trillanes probably realized that once again he made a fool of himself so his much publicized Senate investigation fizzled out.

Now this National Union of People’s Lawyers, whatever that is, wants the Supreme Court to stop the closure and rehabilitation of Boracay. And what do these so-called people’s lawyers have to offer as an alternative?

So far moi has not seen a much better plan, let alone an alternative solution to “Le Affair Boracay” coming from the National Union of People’s Lawyers. All they want to do is stop the closure/rehabilitation.

Here’s the perfect analogy to this shit (pun intended); your toilet is clogged up and overflowing with shit so you want to stop using it temporally and have it fixed. Meanwhile, the National Union of People’s Lawyers does not want you to stop using it but offers no solution on how to stop the overflowing shit from your clogged toilet.

Never mind the stench as long as the National Union of People’s Lawyers will have their photo-op ala Jude Sabio. (brotherlouie16@gmail.com/PN)
