
ILOILO City –As the threat of the African Swine Fever (ASF) looms over Western Visayas, the Department of Agriculture (DA) 6 and its attached agency Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) are intensifying calls for commercial and backyard raisers to secure insurance packages for their pigs.
According to PCIC regional manager Eva Ulie D. Laud, hog raisers will coordinate with their respective local government unit (LGU) through the Municipal or City Agriculture to apply for livestock mortality insurance.
“PCIC have already conducted several meetings with LGU partners, encouraging our backyard hog raisers para inkaso maigo ang baboy sang ASF may ara kita mabulig nga financial assistance,” said Laud. Laud said that West Visayas, under the department’s Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA), is targeting to insure 251, 928 hog heads, based on the government’s allocated premium subsidy of over P80 million.
The remaining 121, 438 hog heads can be covered by the other programs of the department, totaling 370, 490 heads. For a four-month coverage, insurers will get P7, 000 per head for fattener hogs and P10, 000 per head for breeders.
