AKLAN – Three municipalities in this province are still classified as red zones for African Swine Fever (ASF) as of July 16 – Altavas, Ibajay and Tangalan.

The town of Buruanga meanwhile remains in yellow zone (surveillance), according to the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI) Implementation of National Zoning and Movement Plan for the Prevention of ASF report.

DA-BAI also downgraded the towns of Numancia, Lezo, Nabas, Batan, and Malay from red zone to pink zone (buffer).

Eight towns – Kalibo, Malinao, Libacao, Balete, Madalag, Makato, Banga, and New Washington – maintained the zoning status in the pink zone category, it added.

In Antique, the towns of Sebaste, Tibiao, Caluya, Libertad, Pandan, Barbaza, and Culasi are dark green zones (free zones), or have no cases of ASF per DA Administrative Circular Number 12, series of 2019.

In Capiz, DA-BAI tagged the municipalities of Dumarao, Jamindan, Maayon, and Mambusao under pink zone. Twelve towns and Roxas City have been placed in the red zone category.

ASF is a contagious and deadly viral swine disease affecting domestic and feral swine of all ages.

The disease is not only impeding animal health and welfare but has also detrimental impacts on biodiversity and the livelihoods of farmers./PN
