IT’S BEEN exactly three days after that inglorious Sept. 21 (well today is the fourth day) and Rodrigo Duterte is still the President of the Philippines. I can just imagine the utter frustration of the “devotees to the cult of yellow ribbon” when they woke up the morning after and Duterte is still president and the “yellow ribbon” has been discarded and its place was taken over by “shabu white” as the official colors.

And with this new development the national anthem of the former “devotees to the cult of yellow ribbon” which of course is that silly American pop song Tie a Yellow ribbon has also been replaced with Puff the Magic Dragon.

The “devotees to the cult of the yellow ribbon” aka the Liberal Party has been scrapped and in its place Tindig Pilipinas has been launched to spearhead the fight against President Rodrigo Duterte and everything he stands for.

The most immediate comment or reaction to the name Tindig Pilipinas is that it sounds like a name or slogan for promoting a cure for erectile dysfunction, and looking at the front liners, yes indeed it does suggest that.

Franklin Drilon, Kiko Pangilinan, Bambam Aquino, Antonio Trillanes IV, Rissa Hontiveros, and Leni Robredo are the new faces of “erectile dysfunction” err…Tindig Pilipinas.

Along with their new “shabu white” national colors, Tindig Pilipinas might as well also promote Raffy Tulfo’s “Robust Horney Goat Weed”, yes as the name suggests, that’s what it’s for.

Who knows, that might be the spark Kiko needs for Sharon and for Bambam to finally have a sex life other than his cosplay.

Perhaps Tindig Pilipinaswill also serve as the vehicle for Noynoy Aquino to finally come out of the aparador.

And now back to that inglorious Sept. 21, weeks before that date the former “devotees to the cult of yellow ribbon” now known as Tindig Pilipinas made a lot of noise on social and mainstream media. It was something like the final battle between the forces of good and evil, the day of reckoning so to speak.

Of course, the usual suspects, meaning the former “devotees to the cult of yellow ribbon” now known as Tindig Pilipinas, project themselves as the “good forces” blessed by “sainthood interrupted” Cory Aquino while President Rodrigo Duterte’s camp as the forces of evil, the “dark side” led by “Darth Vader.”

Why they chose Sept. 21 to launch their “final push” is significant as it is the anniversary of the declaration of martial law by then President Marcos 45 years ago.

It is significant in the sense for these former “devotees to the cult of yellow ribbon” is that Marcos and martial law is their only reason for existence and relevance when the whole country has already seen through their lies and propaganda.

And as Manila Times columnist Bobi Tiglao said, “they have run out of significant dates to launch their protest actions.”

So we have the nuns and religious brothers of St. Scholastica Academy of Manila, De La Salle University and College of Saint Benilde requiring their students to attend the rally in Luneta on Sept. 21 for fear of academic sanctions and punishments.

Hello, Commission on Human Rights, is this not a violation of the human rights of students? Since when has requiring students to join a political rally part of the regular academic curriculum?

To think these nuns and priests label President Rodrigo Duterte as a fascist and dictator. Come to think of it, fascist is such an abused word that anybody feeling clever uses it but do they really know what it means?

And what is a fascist?  “A fascist is a follower of a political philosophy characterized by authoritarian views and a strong central government — and no tolerance for opposing opinions.”

When Noynoy Aquino was president, a student in Bicol was arrested because he heckled him. I don’t see anything of that sort happening under President Duterte’s watch. I guess Noynoy Aquino has no tolerance for opposing opinions.

Still on the fascist/dictator label, the former “devotees to the cult of yellow ribbon” now known as Tindig Pilipinas have been drumming up sympathy for their “rally of all rallies on Sept. 21 by coming out with pronouncements like “ permit or no permit the rally will push through” or “ military and police forces will disrupt and harassed the rallyists.”

Lo and behold, President Rodrigo Duterte announces that Sept. 21 will be a National Day of Protest; it is not a holiday but no classes and work for all government offices and schools but leaving the discretion to declare such to the heads of private institutions.

He also encouraged everyone in government to protest or join any protest rally on that day and express their grievances and that there will be no policeman or soldier who will be seen in the rallies except for the MMDA traffic personnel.

With that, President Rodrigo Duterte effectively doused with cold water the plan of the former “devotees to the cult of the yellow ribbon” now known as Tindig Pilipinas  to picture themselves as “victims of oppression” by a “fascist president.” As an Englishman commented, “President Duterte has this lovely sense of humor and irony.”

By the way, what happened to that boast of Rissa Hontiveros that it ends on Sept. 21? Moi supposes we still have to wait as she made no mention of what year, certainly not Sept. 21, 2017. (brotherlouie16@gmail.com/PN)
