BACOLOD City – Three individuals were injured and a police vehicle was damaged after a grenade lobbing incident in Sitio Medina, Barangay Rizal, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Leonora Masaba, 75, the owner of the coffee shop; Julius Masaba, 42; and Rochelle Larisma, 30, who was assisting at the establishment, were treated at San Carlos City Hospital for minor injuries.

Additionally, the parked vehicle of Police Senior Master Sergeant Leonardo Luague, assigned to Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, was damaged in the attack.

According to San Carlos deputy chief of police Major Ryan Villasarion, the sibling of the shop’s owner saw the suspect wearing a jacket onboard a motorcycle around 11 a.m. The suspect then immediately fled the scene after throwing the grenade.

The victims alleged that it was either over a land dispute or an old grudge.

Mayor Rene Gustilo disclosed yesterday that the suspect, whose identity is withheld, has been apprehended and is currently under police custody.

The mayor reminded residents to remain vigilant.

“Rest assured, we will strengthen our efforts to monitor any suspicious activities that may undermine our security and increase police visibility and patrols to ensure the public’s safety,” Gustilo added./PN
