BACOLOD City – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts clinched the crown in the BAVC 13-Under Girls One Day Volleyball League held at the Barangay Villamonte Gym here.
Led by Most Valuable Player and Best Outside Hitter awardee Mamielle Jollienne Letran, the Thunderbolts prevailed over 1 Silay Sports A in the championship game, 40-21.
Marishka Alexandria Andrada was named Best Setter, Zelver Faith Baguiao as Best Middle Blocker, Sam Cañete as Best Opposite Spiker, and Luchi Vivero as Best Libero.
Also named as part of the Thunderbolts team are Ariane Alayon, Jemaimah Calvo, Kyana Cortez, Nicole Getino, Jesica Soco, Miley Panganiban, Athena Magbanua, Chloe Alimon, and Yz Montalbo.
In the group stage round, the Gee Banzuela-mentored Thunderbolts prevailed over 1 Silay Sports B, Talisay Aces, and Iglau-an for a 3-0 win-loss record.
In the quarterfinals round, the Thunderbolts defeated Ball Movers squad before they repeated their mastery of 1 Silay Sports B in the semifinals round.
“This is a good test to these young Thunderbolts volleybelles because they played and won consecutive matches in a day,” Thunderbolts team manager Jose Montalbo said.
“Participating in this kind of one-day tournaments will help them mature quickly and prepare them for the juniors level of the team,” he added.
