BACOLOD City – Foton-Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts clinched the 1st Cong. Greg Gasataya Masskara Cup women’s open volleyball championship at the Montalbo Residence here.
The Thunderbolts had a walk in park in clinching the pocket tournament title with the Iloilo Selection opting not to play the gold medal match.
Prior to the aborted finale, the Thunderbolts defeated Bacolod Selection (25-12, 25-9, 25-15), University of San Agustin Bacolod (25-8, 25-7, 25-9), University of San Agustin Iloilo (25-8, 25-19, 25-13), Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (25-13, 25-12, 25-10)m and Iloilo Selection (25-11, 25-11, 25-16) in the elimination round.
Spearheading the Thunderbolts team were Alyssa Bertolano, Joan Marie Monares, Annikha Cabasac, Shane Carmona, Rhean Almendralejo, Jermaine Joniega, and Katherine Shaine Cortez.
Also part of the squad of head coach Ian Macariola were Kiesha Bedonia, Sophie Cagalawan, Gwen Banas, Kathleen Tan, Nicolei Galvan, Alijah Ysulan, Julianne Monares and Aurea Alvero.
The volleyball tournament was through the auspices of Bacolod City congressman Greg Gasataya in coordination with the Negros Federation Volleyball Enthusiast Inc. and JGM Dreams Foundation Inc./PN
