ILOILO City – A 31-year-old laborer is the subject of a police manhunt. He is a suspect in the rape of a seven-year-old girl in Barangay Parara Norte, Tigbauan, Iloilo.
Noel Salarda of Barangay Parara Sur, Tigbauan disappeared after the girl, a Grade I pupil, accused him of rape on Friday night.
At the Tigbauan police station’s Women and Children Protection Desk, the mother of the girl said her daughter was sexually abused around 11:45 p.m.
According to Police Officer 2 Kristine Banas, the mother said Salarda surreptitiously carried the girl from the house to a grassy, dimly lit area.
“The mother chased the suspect but he was so fast,” Banas said.
The mother sought help from neighbors and two hours later her daughter was seen walking naked and crying.
Neighbors recovered the girl’s underwear and pair of shorts, and the suspect’s brief.
The police had the girl examined by a doctor. Results were yet to be released.
The girl told the police Salarda undressed her and positioned himself on top of her.
In a similar case, a nine-year-old girl in Leganes town complained to the police she was raped and her family wanted to file a case against the suspect.
According to Police Officer 2 Rosely Tingson of Leganes police station’s Women and Children Protection Desk, the girl said she was walking home from school one afternoon last month when a man punched her on the stomach and brought her to a nipa hut where she was abused.
Pending the filing of charges, the police declined to name the suspect./PN
