MANILA â TNT KaTropa staved off Meralco Boltsâ runs for a 99-81 victory in the PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Jeth Troy Rosario had double-double 22 points and 10 rebounds while Ryan Garcia and Roger Pogoy had 18 and 15, respectively, for TNT to tally its second win (3-2).
KaTropa had a 13-1 opening run on consecutive treys from Rosario. The lead rose to as high as 36-20 on triples by Harvey Carey and Ryan Reyes, but a late run by Bolts cut the deficit 36-46 at the half.
Meralcoâs strong start in the third pulled it to as close as 47-52 but KaTropa quickly answered with its own rally behind Pogoy and Garcia to increase the lead 73-62.
TNT pulled away for good with a huge run early in the final frame behind triples from Anthony Semerad and Jayson Castro and built its largest lead 92-70 on a Garcia triple.
Baser Amer scored 20 while Jared Dillinger had 14 for Bolts, which slid to the last place in the standings (1-4).
On Saturday night at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City, Magnolia Hotshots turned to Paul Lee and Ian Sangalang in the endgame to defeat Phoenix Fuel Masters 97-91 for its fourth straight win.
Trailing 67-77 early in the final quarter, Hotshots banked on baskets from Lee and Sangalang to take control of the match 91-89. Hotshots heighted its defense for the come-from-behind victory.
âWe expected this kind of game,â Magnolia head coach Chito Victolero said. âThankful ako sa mga players na hindi sila nag-give up sa pressure. It was our mental toughness that led us to the win.â/PN
