MANILA – Failing to find success with its original choice import, TNT KaTropa is turning to American Stacy Davis to get its winning run going in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup.
Davis arrived in the Philippines on Thursday. The 23-year-old is expected to make his debut against Blackwater Elite on Friday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The 6-foot-5 Davis was undrafted during the 2016 NBA Draft and has taken his act to Ukraine where he played for the SK Cherkasy Monkeys, submitting averages of 12.97 points, 5.97 rebounds and 1.46 assists in 37 games.
Davis, a product of Pepperdine University, also suited up as import in France’s LNB Pro B with the STB Le Havre squad where he normed 13.06 points, 5.21 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 34 contests.
He was tapped by TNT to replace Mike Glover, who had a disastrous debut of 11 points and 13 rebounds in the KaTropa’s 90-103 loss against the shorthanded NLEX Road Warriors on Aug. 17.
Two days later TNT was forced to play all-Filipino after deciding to send home Glover. The KaTropa escaped back-to-back Governors’ Cup runner-up Meralco Bolts 92-90.
“Mike was playing below expectations. You guys saw what happened. He’s an import, and he was a minus-26, and he’s been with the team for two weeks,” said TNT team manager Virgil Villavicencio./PN
