Tobias Fornier extends ban on live hogs, pork products 

ANTIQUE – With the number of hog deaths still picking up in other towns here, the municipality of Tobias Fornier extended its ban on the entry of swine, pork and pork by-products from other municipalities.

Mayor Ernesto O. Tajanlangit III on Monday, June 19, issued Executive Order No. 021-EOT stretching the ban on the “entry of live hogs, pork, and pork by-products from outside municipalities for 14 days starting June 20.

To protect the public and the swine industry in Tobias Fornier, the mayor said it is imperative to set guidelines and preventive and protective measures on African Swine Fever (ASF).

“Tungod sa pagduro kang mga nagakaramatay nga mga baboy sa iban nga banwa rugya sa aton probinsya, padayon ang aton pag-uligmat nga indi dya makasulod sa aton banwa,” Tajanlangit said.

Under the new executive order, a Municipal Task Force on African Swine Fever (MTF-ASF) was created to oversee the active implementation of preventive and protective ASF measures.

The MTF-ASF hereby sets the following guidelines and implements them as follows:

* A border checkpoint will be established in Barangay Aras-asan to be manned by local government unit employees, Philippine National Police personnel and barangay tanods.

* Border checkpoints are directed to conduct inspections of commuters’ baggage and check vehicle compartments for possible restricted pork products in their possession.

* Confiscation of pork and pork products in market outlets and shipping back/confiscation of hogs, pork and pork by-products seized at the border

* Confiscated items should be disposed of within the barangay where they were seized.

* A Certificate of inspection is required before hogs are slaughtered. Owners should secure the certification of inspection at the Municipal Agricultural Office and present it to the Municipal Economic Enterprise and Development Office before entering the slaughterhouse or to the Punong Barangay when animals are slaughtered right in their respective barangay. The technical support teams mentioned in EO 064-EOT are directed to perform their assigned tasks.

* Barangays are urged to participate in information campaigns, surveillance, security at border checkpoints, confiscating items, and disposal of dead animals.

* Delivery trucks entering the municipality should undergo disinfection at the border.

* Piggeries or farms with cases of morbidity should be disinfected.

* All swine delivery trucks plying the National Road are only allowed to pass by but not enter the Barangays of Tobias Fornier, Antique. Loading and unloading of hogs is only allowed at the municipal border.

* Farm owners/piggery owners should impose strict biosecurity measures on their farms or piggeries.

“Ginahangyo ko gid ang inyo padayon nga pag-intindi kag suporta sa amo dya nga paghangkat. Magbinuligay kita mga kasimanwa para maproteksyonan ang aton banwa kontra sa ASF,” Tajanlangit added./PN
