Too good to be true?

BY DENNIS FITZGERALD

EX-UNITED Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s statement, “If I have a fault, it’s that I’m too honest” and another statement that might not be attributable to any politician, “If I have a fault, it’s that I work too hard” seem unrealistic.

They are the joke interview responses that will kill off your chances of getting the job.

There are some people, nonpoliticians, who can make these claims but they are the type of people who are humble enough that they would never boast about themselves.

What we need, especially amongst our leaders, are more people who could make these statements honestly.

Fee or free?

Send her to jail, she’ll get free TV, food and accommodation! Sometimes the law is an ass.

A disabled mum in the Britian couldn’t afford the £169.50 fee for her TV viewing license, probably just a meal out for those making and enforcing these laws.

The fine of £750 would be impossible for her and if she did have those savings, it would be better used helping her children and their education.

The statue of Lady Justice is shown as blindfolded because justice is unbiased and should be, but surely this is one time when she should just peek and see that this mum is not a major criminal and some leeway should be allowed.

Up in smoke?

The issue of gender has been a constant topic of discussion in recent years with reference to people’s rights and lifestyles but rather concerning dangerous car driving.

An Australian father to be has been arrested at a “gender reveal” party. His method of announcing the child’s gender was to do a burnout with special car tires that produced appropriately colored smoke, in this case blue.

Even ignoring the silliness of gender reveal parties, a dangerous method seems even more silly. Why not use a cake or some balloons or just wait till the baby is born?

It appears that in this fast world we have to know everything immediately. Anticipation has been replaced by satisfaction.

His driving license is also likely to go up in smoke. <dennis.fitzgerald.letters@gmail.com>/PN
