BACOLOD City – The No. 1 councilman of Barangay San Fernando, Talisay City, Negros Occidental was arrested for owning unlicensed guns.
Armed with a search warrant, police raided the house of 55-year-old Romulo Banhao Jr. around 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday.
Recovered from the house were a .45-caliber pistol with five magazines, a KG9 sub machine gun with two magazines, 66 live bullets of a .45-caliber gun and 13 (reloaded) bullets of a .45-caliber pistol.
Officers of the Talisay police station served the warrant which was issued by Judge Estefanio Libutan Jr. of the Regional Trial Court Branch 50 in Bacolod City dated May 15, 2019.
Banhao was reportedly firing his guns indiscriminately prompting concern citizens to report him to police authorities.
The village councilman meanwhile denied the allegations but claimed that he owns firearms to protect his family.
He was detained in the lockup cell of the Talisay City police station, facing charges./PN
