Tornado hits 50 Iloilo homes

ILOILO City — At least 50 houses were damaged in Molo, Iloilo City and Oton, Iloilo due to a tornado that hit past 11 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), the tornado destroyed at least 24 houses in Barangay West Habog-Habog, 18 of which were partially damaged and six totally damaged. Three houses were totally damaged while two were partially damaged in San Juan, Molo; and one house was totally damaged in West Timawa, Molo.

The CSWDO is currently validating the damages.

According to Rosalinda Balajadia, 67, of Barangay West Habog-Habog, they were still awake when their roof was ripped off. She was thankful that no one was hurt and said this was the first time they experience such a strong tornado. Balajadia appealed to the city government for assistance and said she and her family will stay in their roofless house for the time being. At least 20 houses were also damaged in Barangay Botong, Oton. Eight were totally destroyed while the rest were partially damaged. There were no injuries reported./PN
