BORACAY – Tourism secretary Wanda Corazon Tulfo-Teo will be meeting local tourism stakeholders in this world-famous island today.
Teo, along with the local stakeholders, will be conducting an ocular inspection in the island.
Boracay, one of the top destinations in the country, has posted 2 million foreign and domestic tourist arrivals in 2017, according to the Malay Municipal Tourism Office.
This is the highest recorded number of tourist influx in the island, the Malay Municipal Tourism Office added.
But the island resort is facing environment problems, like frequent flooding due to heavy rains and the poor drainage system.
Teo is expected to discuss with the stakeholders the tourism situation in the province and the issues of the development plans in Boracay.
The stakeholders include Malay mayor Ceciron Cawaling, Aklan governor Florencio Miraflores, and members of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Aklan Chapter, Boracay Foundation, Inc., and Boracay Joint Task Force.
Tourism undersecretary for public affairs Katherine Chloe de Castro will be accompanying Teo in her first visit in Boracay as tourism chief. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
