MANILA – The Department of Tourism (DOT) will push for the holding of the Manny Pacquiao-Jeff Horn rematch in the Philippines this December.
Secretary Wanda Teo told a news conference on Tuesday she already spoke with Pacquiao’s camp and pitched the Philippine Arena in Bulacan province as venue.
“I had a talk with Congressman Eric Pineda (Pacquiao’s business manager) and he was asking us if we could sponsor Pacquaio’s rematch with Jeff Horn this December,” Teo said.
“We are working on it now. That event can also help bring tourists to the Philippines,” she added. “Just like the Miss Universe, we will seek for sponsors to make sure the government will not spend for anything.”
Teo’s announcement came a day after Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk announced that the Pacquiao-Horn rematch will be held in his place after negotiating with Pacquiao’s camp.
Horn was the unanimous winner for the three judges (115-113, 115-113, 117-111) in their first encounter in Brisbane.
In a review – done by a WBO-formed five-man panel upon the request of the Philippine games board – three of the five judges ruled that Horn won (115-113, 114-113, 114-113). One scored it for Pacquiao (114-113) while another saw it as a 114-all draw./PN
