BORACAY – A tourist was found dead in an apartelle in Barangay Manocmanoc on Jan. 4.
A rapid antigen test indicated the tourist had coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“May nakitang dugo doon malapit sa biktima, sa mismong higaan niya. May mga kasama siya doon sa kwarto,” said Lieutenant Colonel Don Dicksie De Dios, police chief of Malay, Aklan.
The Municipal Health Office, however, reported COVID-19-related complications as the tourist’s cause of death, said De Dios.
From what the police gathered, the night before the tourist was found dead, he and his friends dined in a restaurant then had a drinking spree in a bar before returning to the apartelle “mga bandang madaling araw.”
“Napansin ng kanyang mga kasama sa room na hindi na sya gumagalaw,” according to De Dios.
The tourist, reportedly a transgender, arrived in Boracay Island on Jan. 3 with his 13 companions.
His companions were isolated to prevent possible spread of coronavirus to others.
The tourist, in early 30s, was a native of Camarin, Caloocan City./PN
