ANTIQUE – The first-ever Tourist Rest Area (TRA) in this province will soon rise in San Remigio town’s Barangay Aningalan – an upland village and one of the leading tourist destinations here.

The groundbreaking ceremony and memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing between the Department of Tourism (DOT) and local government unit of San Remigio for the P10-million project was held on Thursday, November 21.

The construction of the TRA was through the initiative of DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco and in partnership with the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA).

The TRA will feature essential amenities such as clean restrooms, a coffee shop, a pasalubong center, tourist information area, and charging stations, all designed to enhance the travel experience for visitors.

“I’m very happy that I made my way here in the beautiful Province of Antique, to break ground on the very first Tourist Rest Area for your province”, Frasco said.

She added: “By putting up the Tourist Rest Area in the Province of Antique, we will be able to add to the flourishing tourist destinations here in the province, as well as to contribute to your vision for this province.”

Joining Frasco on the ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony and MOA signing were San Remigio’s Mayor Margarito C. Mission Jr., Cong. Antonio Agapito Legarda, TIEZA Assistant Chief Operating Officer Jetro Nicolas Lozada, DOT Director Glenn Albert Ocampo, DOT Western Visayas director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez, and other municipal mayors and representatives from different municipalities./PN
