MANILA – A gross domestic product growth of 6 percent “is not bad” and may still be considered as one of the strongest growth experiences of the country and must not be seen in a negative light, Trade secretary Ramon Lopez said recently.
This kind of growth means a growing economy, more business opportunities. “And when business opportunities are growing, there are more jobs,” the Cabinet official said in an interview on GMA News’ “News to Go.”
“Dati ang unemployment natin nasa 6.6 percent. Ngayon ay nasa 5.3 percent to 5.5 percent. Nararamdaman natin ‘yun sa pamamagitan ng mas maraming trabahong available. Ang request lang natin sa ating mga kababayan ay tuloy-tuloy magsipag, at ang mga walang trabaho mag-aral para magkatrabaho at bumaba ang unemployment,” Lopez noted.
The economy grew by 6.0 percent in the second quarter of 2018, compared with 6.6 percent in the first quarter of the year and with 6.7 percent in the second quarter of 2017. (GMA News)
